What is a bedside cot?
A bedside crib (also called a bassinet or co-sleeper) is a small baby cot that attaches to your adult bed, allowing your newborn to sleep safely next to you. This is a form of co-sleeping in a safe manner that does not increase the risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) like bedsharing and can help you bond with your newborn.
They usually have a side that can be raised, so you can easily reach your newborn at night to feed and comforting. This is especially useful for mums recovering from an op. Many of them are foldable or portable so you can use them for travel and as an interim solution for infants who aren't quite ready to move to a larger crib.
Find a crib that has a mattress that is breathable, as well as an appropriate cover to protect your baby from stains. You may also want to purchase some baby-safe accessories like an infant blanket or a teether.
If you're looking for a longer-term option, some cribs have conversion kits that let you turn them into a cot or a toddler bed at the time of need. This will extend their life and make the transition easier. Some have a removable section at the top that can be turned into the bassinet. Some can be used with either an adult bed that is standard or a high-rise bed. This is an excellent choice for families that are planning to frequently travel or switch between bedrooms in the evening. You should also think about how big your bedroom is to ensure that you can squeeze the crib in comfortably. Many cribs have a riser which can be used to create an incline to accommodate babies with reflux.

It was a pleasure to not move like other models so she didn't wake up at night while trying to comfort her child for feedings. Our mum testers found it easy to move from room to room and felt it was a great size for a small bedside cot, and not too big or too small. They also liked the large storage basket, which is ideal for stowing spare bedding or nappies.
This is a great choice for parents who are looking to co-sleep, but do not want to share their beds or whose partners may have mobility issues, like arthritis or back pain. Our mom testers are thrilled with the ease with which they can access their child in the Iora and that it has an adjustable reflux incline that can help alleviate gas.
Our moms appreciate the fact that the mattress is in line with NICE guidelines that state to put the baby in a crib or Moses basket on its own (with no blankets, toys pillows, etc.). bedside cot co sleeper is also a good firm and comfortable for the baby, and sheets are readily available. It's not as light as other smaller cribs on our list, so if you prefer something lighter and easier to move, choose another option.
